FIERF Technology & Workforce Development Summit at Marquette University
On March 21st FIA Members from ATI Forged Products, Charter Steel, Fox Valley Forge, Green Bay Drop Forge, Kropp Forge, Milwaukee Forge, Scot Forge and Walker Forge gathered for the FIERF Technology and Workforce Development Summit at Marquette University where they heard from professors, the department of Industry Relations and students participating in FIERF sponsored projects.
Participants were welcomed by Dr. John Borg, Department of Mechanical Engineering Department Chair, heard from FIERF Magnet School Professor Joe Domblesky about a number of FIERF sponsored research projects and Katherine Atkinson of the University’s Industry Relations Office about Co-op, internship and new hire opportunities.
The group heard directly from students Ross Crowley (Weight Reduction of Forged Parts Numerical Modeling Simulations), Jerry Steele (Laboratory Testbed to Develop Smart Robotic Forge Press Tenders) and Kyle Wolf (Robotic Cell/Die Design) of their work on forging projects. Mr. Tom Silman let the group on a tour to see first-hand the new robotic cell as well as other labs and capabilities at Marquette University available to FIA Members.
